The concept is often used in the field of law with respect to a punishment that is applied for a disciplinary offense and that it implies registering the offense so that, if it is repeated, a more severe penalty may be applied.

These warnings may arise in the context of a Judicial process. The court or judge can draw attention and warn one of the parties through communication to carry out a certain action. If you do not comply with what is required in the communication, it leads to a sanction. Within the legal sphere, we also have to underline the existence of what is known as the procedure of warning of urgency. In the same way, in this area, the word warning is also used to refer to disciplinary sanctions and actions that are imposed on employees of the same who do not comply with what is due. That is, they do not carry out their functions as they should.

In an educational setting, on the other hand, the warning can serve as a warning a student to modify their conduct if you do not want to be sanctioned with reprimands or other punishment mechanisms. The regulation of a secondary school, to cite one case, could establish that, when a student accumulates three warnings, he receives a admonition. After ten reprimands, he is automatically expelled from school. The warnings, in this framework, are recorded in a disciplinary book.

Within the field of education, the most common warnings are established by what are the unexcused absences of students to class. In this way, they are understood as a tool to, among other things, reduce or end the so-called phenomenon of school absenteeism.

Thus, depending on the hours that have been missed and the number of hours that the subject in question has, slight, serious or very serious warnings may be established.

Within the sports field we can underline the existence, for example, of warnings to clubs and teams for situations that occurred on their fields during a competition. We are referring, for example, to the decision to close the stadium because a bottle has been thrown at the referee.
