{"id":353,"date":"2021-04-27T02:50:12","date_gmt":"2021-04-27T02:50:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/enorcerna.com\/wiki\/what-is\/inferential-statistics\/"},"modified":"2021-04-27T02:50:12","modified_gmt":"2021-04-27T02:50:12","slug":"inferential-statistics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/enorcerna.com\/wiki\/what-is\/inferential-statistics\/","title":{"rendered":"Inferential statistics"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<h2>What is inferential statistics?<\/h2>\n<p>Inferential statistics, also known as inductive, is the statistic that performs <strong>predictions, projections<\/strong> Y <strong>value judgments<\/strong> with respect to a large set of information, based on data gathered from a smaller series of information.<\/p>\n<p>In cases where during an investigation it is not possible to study all the elements that make up the universe to be examined, one or more parts of said universe are taken and based on the analysis of those parts, called samples, it is sought to determine the<strong> characteristics of the entire population<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Thus, inferential statistics performs <strong>estimates and hypotheses<\/strong> based on <strong>probabilities<\/strong> and arguing their results from the <strong>samples from a population<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Naturally, these samples must be the most representative of the universe or the total population, so the <strong>choosing and determining the sample size<\/strong> It is one of the most important issues to be raised in inferential statistics, since based on this, decisions will be made and predictions will be made.<\/p>\n<h2>Instruments of inferential statistics<\/h2>\n<p>The instruments that make up inferential statistics are the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Statistical universe<\/strong>: it consists in determining which individual cases are to be observed, as well as their scope in the space and time of the investigation.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Research unit<\/strong>: constituted by the individual cases that are studied in the investigation, through which the phenomenon is observed.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Statistical moment<\/strong>: instant or period to which the individual data will refer.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sampling<\/strong>: choice of a representative part or sample of the population, to describe the whole of it.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Probability sampling<\/strong>: sampling technique in which each population unit has an equal chance of appearing in the sample.  An incorrect selection of the sample units can lead to the impossibility of correctly inferring the characteristics of the population.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Aleatory sample<\/strong>: limited number of observations chosen at random from an aggregate whole on a universe.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sampling risk<\/strong>- Whenever less than 100 percent of a population is examined, there is a risk that the sample is not representative.  Sampling risk is controlled by the size of the samples and the selection methods used.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Probability theory<\/strong>: is the basis on which most statistical laws rest, and its greatest application is found in inductive statistics (sampling theory), since probabilistic methods indicate the possibility that a sample provides the necessary data to describe the total universe and indicate the degree of confidence that can be had in the results obtained through the sample.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Examples of inferential statistics<\/h2>\n<p>There are different and very diverse areas in which inferential statistics acts and contributes knowledge, being able to point out, among others, the following examples:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Economy<\/strong>: here the utility consists in the handling of numerical data, for whose interpretation and evaluation it is necessary to use inferential statistical methods, and among which the consumption index, the market analysis, the estimation of demand and the time series can be mentioned. .  A special field of study is Econometrics and econometric models.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Education<\/strong>: there are close links between inferential statistics and empirical pedagogical research, which contributes to the understanding of study methods in education, program design, measurement and evaluation problems, diagnosis and even their orientation.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Legal sciences<\/strong>: one of the fields of law in which inferential statistics is applied is criminology, through crime prevention studies.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sociology<\/strong>: To understand and assess the development of collective behaviors, evaluate social institutions, their organization and interrelations, the analysis and comparison of social structures underlying groups, etc., it is necessary to resort to descriptive statistics.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<table class=\"info-bibliografia\">\n<thead>\n<tr>\n<th>Bibliography:<\/th>\n<\/tr>\n<\/thead>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<ul>\n<li>Barreto Villanueva, Adam. <em>The progress of Statistics and its usefulness in the evaluation of development<\/em>.
