Statistics

What is statistics?
When we speak of statistics we refer to the branch of mathematics which is responsible for analyze and study data, as well as look for explanations of the phenomena that alter the results.
Statistics is considered a science since it studies a population in a specific way, through data collection and with the aim of determine a problem and seek its solution.
Its execution manifests itself in various ways, both within physics and science, and it is also often used in business and in the government field.

Statistics is a science that collects, describes, organizes, and interprets data and information.
Statistical characteristics
Of the main characteristics of the statistics we can highlight that:
- Its study, use and application is essential for decision-making in different areas.
- It gives rise to a process that studies social, scientific and industrial problems.
- It is a system that it may take a while until generating true results and with prescribed solutions.
- Provides an estimated result, either numerical or social, as well as offers conclusions that lead to a solution.
Statistical types
Statistics can be classified into 4 types:
- Descriptive: also known as deductive, it is the statistic that is responsible for showing the result of specifically studied data, without generalizations.
- Inferential: also known as inductive, it is that statistic that, unlike the descriptive, does offer results together general data from extensive research.
- Applied: After investigating, studying and analyzing with the previous methods, the applied statistics is used to provide specific and generalized results about the investigation.
- Mathematics: In addition to performing the processes of deductive or inferential statistics, mathematical statistics will use algebra and certain more in-depth analyzes to offer a focused and formal point of view.
Statistical objective
Although statistics are commonly used to give mathematical or scientific results based on data, The objective of this science can be defined from various ways in which a situation develops:
- Thanks to the investigation of specific data, improves understanding of the facts.
- Do the inference of a population based on the data provided.
- Descriptive statistics summarizes the information obtained from the data.
- Inferential statistics offers data and solutions within different areas.
