The term indigenous it traveled a long etymological path before reaching Castilian. Its origins are in the Greek word autóchthōn. He then went on to Latin as autochthŏnes, and later to French as autochtone.

Autochthonous is a adjective that can be applied to the living being, to the product or to the place that is original or native of country where they are. The autochthonous, therefore, is typical of a site.

In the field of biology, the idea of ​​autochthonous is linked to the being that is native to the ecosystem in which it lives. An autochthonous being, thanks to evolution, is adapted to the ecosystem in question. For this reason, if an alien being is introduced (not originally from this space), it is possible that an imbalance is generated in said ecosystem.

In the same way, we cannot ignore that Autochthonous is a Greek character. Specifically, it is a figure that the philosopher Plato collects in his work "Critias".
